Message from the CEO – Stuart Layne
Barbados is one of the most trusted, highly regarded and stable islands in the Caribbean region.
On May 24th, 2018, a new Government, under the leadership of The Hon. Mia Amor Mottley Q.C. M.P. came into office, following a historic landslide election victory.
One of the focal points of the national agenda has been to reinvigorate the international business sector. Barbados is after all, one of the most sought-after destinations to live, do business and play.
In keeping with this objective, the Prime Minister and her Government have re-structured our tax regime; we now boast one of the most competitive non-zero, tax structures in the world, and have radically overhauled our Town and Country Development Planning Act to make the planning and construction process in Barbados faster, more predictable and transparent, to attract developers and major hotel brands and to facilitate their business on our shores.
Our unique social partnership of business leaders, labour organisations and government all recognize that we cannot achieve these priorities alone. We understand that to be world leaders, we must work alongside seasoned practitioners of global best practices to forge a thriving investment climate, built on shared and equal opportunity.
The Government has drawn up a detailed plan for the redevelopment of approximately twenty (20) major new hotel sites in one of the most picturesque settings in the Caribbean— the Greater Carlisle Bay Area.
